Zero PII stored. Ever. Here's exactly what Jijenga does and doesn't keep.
TL;DR
Jijenga never stores your personal information. Your M-Pesa PDF is deleted immediately after processing. We only keep numbers — never names, never phone numbers, never your identity.
The rule that doesn't change
Zero PII (Personally Identifiable Information) stored. Ever.
This isn't a policy that gets reviewed in the next business cycle. It's a hard technical constraint built into every layer of Jijenga's architecture. No business pressure changes it. No investor request overrides it.
What we process vs. what we store
Your M-Pesa PDF contains personal information. Jijenga needs to read it to extract transactions. Here's exactly what happens to each piece of data:
| Data | Processed | Stored |
|---|---|---|
| M-Pesa PDF | ✅ Parsed to extract transactions | ❌ Deleted immediately after parsing |
| Transaction amounts | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes — the number only |
| Counterparty names | ✅ Yes — used for classification | ❌ No — only the category is kept |
| Phone numbers in transactions | ✅ Yes — used to detect transaction type | ❌ No |
| Your name (from PDF header) | ✅ Extracted | ❌ Not stored |
| Your Safaricom number | ✅ Extracted | ❌ Not stored |
What is stored
After your statement is processed, Jijenga retains:
- Transaction date
- Transaction amount
- Transaction type (send, receive, paybill, buy goods, withdrawal, etc.)
- Assigned category (e.g. Food & Groceries, Transport, Airtime & Data)
- Running balance (the number only — no account identifiers)
That's the complete list. The financial record exists. Your identity does not.
Authentication
Your Jijenga account uses Clerk for authentication. Jijenga never sees your password — Clerk handles login securely. Your email address (used to create your account) is stored in the auth system and is never linked to your transaction data.
Infrastructure security
- All stored data is encrypted at rest
- All API traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS)
- No third-party analytics tools have access to your financial data
